Our Primary Bedroom: Before & After

When we first started renovating our home, we had plans to add to this part of the house and build a new primary suite. With the rising construction costs bundled with the fact that we were trying to do this project on a cash basis, we quickly abandoned the idea of adding an addition. The home previously had three small bedrooms with an unfinished basement. We used the three upstairs bedrooms to create a large bedroom with a bath and made an additional bedroom in the basement as we finished that off. Forgoing the addition saved us about $80,000 in construction costs. We LOVE how it all came together, and I’m pretty happy with how we utilized the structure we had to work with.

AFTER

During demo, we discovered this gorgeous brick behind the drywall. We decided to keep it exposed and make it the focal of the room. I had this mirror on my wishlist for years and knew it would be the perfect addition to this space.

The entire room is painted Natural Choice by Sherwin Willaims, a great neutral that's not too white or too tan. Since we chose a neutral base, I wanted to use a bold bed, and what better way to go bold than with velvet? The quality of this bed is fantastic. I got lucky enough to find it in stock and ready to ship therefore, it was on sale.

I love how this space came together! It’s the perfect mix of functional and cozy.
